Overview
ClassUp connects tutors, students and guardians around academic progress. The engineering challenge is to bring those relationships into a coherent web experience, backed by relational data and cloud services.
Context
An academic platform led by Emmanuel Silva, connecting the people involved in learning through progress management and communication.
Problem
Tutors, students and guardians need a shared place to manage academic progress and communicate.
Technical constraints
The same academic journey is seen by three different participants. Progress and communication must remain connected across those perspectives, while application behavior and persistence have distinct responsibilities.
Architecture
Academic experience
Tutors, students and guardians use the platform to manage academic progress and communication. The model illustrates their shared entry point into the learning journey.
Cloud execution
AWS Lambda is a documented part of ClassUp’s cloud foundation. This layer represents server-side execution, separate from the academic interface and relational persistence.
Data foundation
Oracle Autonomous Database supplies the relational foundation. People, academic progress and communication form the connected domain represented by this conceptual layer.
Conceptual architecture · A model of responsibilities using the project’s documented technologies.
Key engineering decisions
The technology choices, followed by an engineering analysis of the responsibilities they address.
A relational data foundation
Oracle Autonomous Database is the project’s relational store. Academic progress connects people and activities; relational modeling offers an explicit way to express those relationships.
The engineering lens: model relationships deliberately rather than letting interface screens define the data.
Cloud function execution
AWS Lambda provides the project’s cloud execution foundation. A function boundary makes the distinction between the web experience and server-side execution visible.
The engineering lens: keep the contract between the caller, application behavior and persistence clear.
A structured collaboration workflow
Git Flow is part of the project’s version-control approach. It gives collaborative development a shared branching vocabulary and separates ongoing feature work from integration.
The engineering lens: coordination is part of the architecture, especially when several features evolve together.

Implementation highlights
- Academic progress management
- Tutor, student and guardian communication
- Cloud and relational database integration
Challenges
The central challenge is coordination: academic progress and communication belong to the same learning journey, even when different people interact with them. ClassUp brings those concerns together through a web platform with cloud and relational foundations.
Outcomes and lessons learned
An academic web platform with a linked demonstration, focused on progress management and communication between tutors, students and guardians.
A useful way to evaluate this system is to follow one academic relationship from the interface to execution and persistence. Each boundary should preserve the meaning of that relationship.Explore the demonstration
